"I dun know, but Missus Braley said that you like prostitutes," the freckled elf replied, her eyes searching his face for reassurance. "Do you, Daddy?" "Yeah, I guess I do. Jesus tells us to love everyone." His blue eyes crinkled and a grin started at the corners of his mouth and then dimpled widely. Jeremy Barnett struggled to work the land and pastor his church during the lean times following the Depression. Farming gave him time to contemplate the righteousness of God-to do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with God in a place where bootlegging, bigotry, and prostitution chained many people to their sin. But the "righteous" members of his church didn't always agree with the way he loved sinners. Will he be rejected and ridiculed by his congregation or will they learn that mercy triumphs over judgment? Jeremy moves his family to the central valley of California during WWII. Living with meager creature comforts on the farm was one thing, but in the city where material comforts are everywhere, will his family be able to survive without resentment and envy? Desiring to give his loved ones everything possible, can he remain true to his God and his calling?
