西方史學開山之作，以波斯徵服史為主綫，希臘殖民史為副綫，穿插神話傳說、奇聞軼事，勾勒齣一幅公元前五世紀東地中海到中西亞各民族的完整曆史畫捲。希羅多德天南海北恣意遊走的敘事風格看似漫不經意，實則暗具匠心，可讀性極強（除埃及部分），讓我一個非專業讀者愛不釋手。有對風俗習慣的客觀記錄，也有抑殘暴波斯揚自由雅典的春鞦筆法。更要感謝這一版的編者，用詳盡的史圖和注解為普通讀者鋪平瞭通嚮古代世界的道路。
