Herodotus' Histories is such a fun history book and story book!

被這個版本和這個齣版社感動得快哭瞭，真的是人生見過的製作最用心、讀著感覺最好的曆史書排版：每頁各種詳細地圖、底下各種詳細注釋、每段邊上的批注、書尾的附錄。手上另外兩本牛津版和企鵝版的被完爆十八條街。讀的時候就默默難過，要是史記啊資治通鑒啊也能齣這樣的版本就好瞭T,T，也不用每次一邊讀、一手google map、一手照著曆朝地圖艱苦地翻翻翻瞭。又為這個版本感動又為國文史籍沒這樣的版本遺憾甚至難過。

西方史學開山之作，以波斯徵服史為主綫，希臘殖民史為副綫，穿插神話傳說、奇聞軼事，勾勒齣一幅公元前五世紀東地中海到中西亞各民族的完整曆史畫捲。希羅多德天南海北恣意遊走的敘事風格看似漫不經意，實則暗具匠心，可讀性極強（除埃及部分），讓我一個非專業讀者愛不釋手。有對風俗習慣的客觀記錄，也有抑殘暴波斯揚自由雅典的春鞦筆法。更要感謝這一版的編者，用詳盡的史圖和注解為普通讀者鋪平瞭通嚮古代世界的道路。

這本和Strassler的Thucydides、Xenophon，注解詳盡，排版完美，地圖豐富而標示細緻，總之對於各種水平的讀者訴求、興趣、關注點都體貼入微，是最好的古希臘曆史讀本，沒有之一！最接近的中國曆史著作，大概是楊伯峻先生注的《左傳》瞭（隻可惜該版本缺乏地圖、照片）。
