Siu老師早年的作品。主體部分是考察社會主義集體化對於廣東珠江三角洲地區農村社會的衝擊和重塑。前麵幾章介紹地區、曆史背景時透露齣導師Skinner的區域論和同僚華南學派的曆史人類學方法的影響，後麵主體部分則多依賴田野調查／口述曆史和國傢／社會關係的權力結構分析。視點集中於基層乾部，他們是依附國傢權力的agent，而不像明清的當地精英是中介國傢權力和底層民眾的broker。
