非常好的一本書。原書是寫給國外小朋友作為瞭解曆史的兒童讀物的，但是很適閤我們學習英語用，用詞不難。作者寫的非常好，尤其是最後一部分，看完都感動的要落淚瞭。強烈推薦

短小精悍，有趣有高度，適閤入門或者曆盡韆帆後返璞歸真。one more star if renamed into A Little History of the "Western Europe", rather than "the World".

我的曆史入門，讀起來非常有史詩感，但是隻能算是曆史上，尤其是歐洲史比較重大事件的講述，幫助認清瞭很多歐洲的人名，如果能配上地圖或者相應時間就更好瞭。不過沒想到貢布裏希對中國的認識也就是歐美普通學過曆史的高中生水平，竟然把秦始皇叫做"Enemy of History" 以最後一章的一句話結尾，One can be attached to one's own country without needing to insist that the rest of the world's inhabitants are worthless.

每一個孩子讀這本書都會覺得在和一個學識淵博、內心充滿寬容仁愛的友善叔叔/爺爺聊天吧。幫助讀者建立一個框架，讀者未來攝取的知識都可以像拼圖一樣放進這個框架裏。還是歐洲史為主，畢竟作者是歐洲人。本來是寫給孩子看的，語言是對話體的，成人看稍顯幼稚，但內容還是很好的，能夠體會到作者盡自己的全力盡量公正地去呈現曆史，也提醒讀者這種呈現永遠不可能是準確的。前麵有一個作者孫子寫的序言，講述瞭這本書創作的雋永故事。這是貢布裏希唯一一本用德語寫的書，而他人生的最後就是在自己修訂翻譯這部作品，可惜沒有完成就去世瞭，最終這本書從德語到英語的翻譯是他的助手完成的。
