评分3.5，幾條故事綫中寫得最好的就是Walter和Patty之間撕心裂肺的感情糾葛，最不可信的是Walter的Trust Fund和兒子Joey的summer intern。對當前美國精神危機之下核心傢庭所麵對的社會、道德問題，對人性與情感的描寫鞭闢入裏，另一方麵許多情節轉摺、人物設置和境遇又刻意得讓人揚起眼角。最為本身為書中世界觀之一object的Patty的自傳，雖然本身並不是bad literature，但這種設置本身極其不讓人信服。情節發展有時拖延得冗長痛苦。總體而言肯定是被媒體過譽的一部小說，但還是挺有可讀性的。

评分Didn't finish it. Against all the rave reviews I find the book a duller and far less smart re-write of Rabbit Run. Franzen's style simply does nothing for me: among all the indirect narrations I feel I am only scraping off the surface of the characters instead of living their worlds through them.
