可读性很高的民族志。教育对于阶级再生产，在不同社会有不同的作用方式，不同于布迪厄观察到的法国上层阶级的文化区隔，在美国这种以“开放，包容，努力工作，自我实现”为主流正确观念的社会，上层阶级通过精英学校实现了用个人优势掩盖阶级特权，获得了正当性。最早的资本贵族面对“血汗工厂”尚有阶级的负罪感，并在文化上受封建贵族的嘲弄，这些资产阶级的子女们在60年代革命里颠覆了传统贵族的文化优势，完成了父辈未竟的文化革命；而现代的资本贵族利用教育，逐渐让自己的优势变得如封建社会的血缘贵族那样“自然”。
